[TRANS] 120222 TVXQ Win The ‘Singer Of The Year’ Award At The ‘Gaon Chart K-pop Awards’ With Over 240,000 Albums Sold

Group TVXQ topped the charts for album sales in the first quarter of 2011.
The awards ceremony for the ’1st Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards’ was held on the 22nd at the Hannam-dong Blue Square with Girls’ Generation’s Tae Yeon and Joo Young Hoon as the MCs.
On this night, awards were given to chart-topping songs on a monthly basis and albums on a quarterly basis. TVXQ beat their competitors to come out on top during the first quarter of 2011 with their album ‘Why? (Keep Your Head Down)’, which sold a total of 235,669 copies.
TVXQ, who were unable to attend the awards ceremony due to an overseas schedule, gave their acceptance speech through a video and said, “Thank you so much. We’ll continue to work hard and greet you with great music and performances.”
Meanwhile, the Gaon Chart K-pop Awards, which held its first awards ceremony this year, chose its winners solely based on the digital music and album sales of all songs that were released last year.
The awards ceremony was aired live from 7p.m. on the 22nd on cable channels KBS DRAMA and KBS JOY, as well as the portal site DAUM.
