Lee Teuk revealed that Super Junior doesn’t earn as much as people think.
The May 3 broadcast of MBC’s Joo Byung Jin Talk Concert put together an ‘SMTown MT’, with Super Junior’s Eunhyuk and Lee Teuk, TVXQ’s Max Changmin and U-Know Yunho and Girls’ Generation (SNSD)’s Tiffany and Seohyun.
Lee Teuk first started on the subject by showing his interest in TVXQ’s profits, saying, “Most recently, TVXQ became the first Korean singer to gather 550,000 people [for its Japan tour], and it earned a 100 billion won profit.” Max Changmin, however, emphasized, “You shouldn’t misunderstand [the numbers]. The ‘profits’ are more like ‘sales’ [rather than actual revenue].”
Lee Teuk then agreed, “When they report that we earned tens of billions of won, people think we earn a lot of money. The truth is, if we earn 100 billion won, we have to take off Japanese agency fees and other costs, meaning that we don’t receive as much.” Eunhyuk then drew out a laugh from everyone when he complained, “And then we divide it among ourselves, more than 10 members, so that’s disheartening.”
Lee Teuk also revealed how he recently talked over the phone with the tentatively retired Kang Ho Dong, saying that the comedian is his life’s mentor.
