Q. [CF] Commercials that you wish to shoot?

Mir: (He answers the question about the CF he wishes to shoot without even a second of hesitation). “Credit card advertisement” They seem to appear often on TV and a lot of adults often see them making them feel highly credibility which is good. Second is beer commercials, and third is camera commercials

G.O: I want to shoot beer commercials. In general the men that appear on beer commercials have a very masculine aura is very handsome. “Kim Soo-hyun’s during beer commercials is very man, even men also think it is very handsome. Second are credit card commercials, credit card commercials give a very creditable image. Third is perfume, “Actually, I am somewhat sensitive/allergic to perfume fragrance; women seem to really like the brand Elizabeth Arden.”

Lee Joon: Camera commercials. “The models that appear in camera commercials are very pretty, I want to shoot” Second is beer commercials, want to look better than the previous (beer commercial) that I shoot, would like to shoot another beer commercial. Cosmetic and credit card commercials look good too.

Seungho: Camera. “I really like machines” Second is beer commercials. “My soju tolerance level is about half a bottle to two bottles?” Because I like to drink alcohol, a lot of fans give it to us as gifts. (ha ha) Now have to collect quicker than the drinking amount/rate. (Laughs) Seems like the reality is that while you are shooting the beer commercial, you can drink (haha). Third are car commercials.

Cheondoong: First, beer commercials. During the commercial, seems like you can depict a youthful energetic image. Second is camera commercial. The appearance of the model in the commercial coming out is very good looking. Third are credit card commercials. The people who shoot credit card commercials are known to be “National artist”, “National artist” image, we can as “National Idol” shoot commercials, think it would be nice (laugh).

Q. [healing] Methods of reducing stress

Mir: First of all, sleep. Second, play video games, third is going back to the countryside. My family is by the Great Wall. When I go back home, the stress just magically goes away. The countryside doesn’t have a lot cars, and it isn’t complex. I really like it. All of Jeolla are around this  famous “Naejangsan .” This place also has a lot of famous “Naejangsan ” and this place’s temples are also very good.

G.O: Number one is alcohol. I learned a bit late how to drink alcohol type. I have an alcohol drinking tolerance of only drink one bottle of wine. Seungho can really drink so he has a lot of knowledge about alcohol. Second I think is sleeping. After falling asleep, you can also sort out your emotions. The third method is shopping. It seems like driving the car I like to a place I like helps me do things, too.

Lee Joon: The way I get rid of stress compared to all other methods is by sleeping. Sleeping is medicine. Drinking alcohol or shopping makes you even more tired.  (laugh)

Seungho: Meeting up with friends is something that can help with getting rid of stress. When you meet with your friends, you will talk a lot. Second is mechanical shopping. It represents using the computer, and I also like cars so I’ve done a lot of assembling/installing like car tuning and others I like a lot. (Shows a turning car) This is one I personally made. Right now I’ve changed cars. Before doing this, my last car was something interesting I personally designed.  Because I really cherish a car’s style, sometimes I would talk to the car at the underground parking garage. (haha) The car that I am driving right now is called “Yangji ROBO.” The other car was called “Yang sami.” (laugh).

Cheondoong: Sleep. There doesn’t seem to be any better method to naturally relieve. Second is listening to music. Listen to all different types of genres of music. Listen to old songs such as songs from Beattles and Michael Jacksons, also listen to latest songs, and sometimes I like to listen to songs that are without voices and just playing instrumentals in the background. Third is walk. Not like climbing the mountain type, but just like to walk.

I have a bad memory from climbing. During trainee period, went with friends to Woomyunsan “Said was to go exercise, but was really to distress, we lost our cell phone and lost our bus card and also got lost. Didn’t know the road to get back, so just followed the road and reached the peak. Still remember the memory of finally getting back down from the peak to the hostel. So I still have a fear of mountain climbing.

[INTERVIEW] 120926 MBLAQ BNT Interview #2 “Lee Joon “If given an opportunity for a vacation…”"

 Lee Joon “If given an opportunity for a vacation, I’d go to Machu Picchu”

We have heard if we were to give MBLAQ a vacation, where they would want to go and their usual fashion preference.
Q. [TRAVEL] If you were given a vacation, what the place you would most want to go to?

Mir:  First, Guam, Second France, Third Singapore. I have never been to France, it is one of the places I’d like to go. Though have been to Singpore, it wasn’t for vacation, so I would like to go there for vacation.

G.O:  If given the chance, I’d rather go to a tourist attraction than a resort. (Laugh) Therefore, the place I’d most like to go is Hong Kong. The things that I would want to buy, I think Hong Kong has it all. For example, “If I would want to see something”, if I go, it would be there. If I want to eat something delicious or buy something, regardless of my mood, it would be there.

Second would be Singapore. I previously stayed at the Marina Bay Sands but never had the chance to go to the swimming pool. Third is Paris, France.  I’d like to see Montmartre. “In reality I only have the memory of going to Montmartre  Bakery” (haha)

Lee Joon:  I want to go to Egypt. I want to see with my own eyes Eygpt’s 6000 years of cultural monuments and the 8^th wonders of the world.  Personally, I like to go to historical locations, because I feel like I can learn a lot from them.

Second, I would like to go to the ancient city in Peru (Machu Picchu).  Machu Picchu is one of the Wonders of the World, and it is a city that sits between mountains, which is difficult to be explained scientifically.  So I would like to use my own eyes to see it. Third is India. Rather than tourist attractions like, Guam and Singapore, I am more interested in the culture and customs of the country itself.

Seungho:  I have previously been to Singapore, but I also want to go to Marina Bay Sands swimming pool. Second places is Guam, third I’d want to go the Speedway in Japan, as our country only does track racing, Japan makes regular roads into a Speedway, it is a place in which you can drive fast, so I’d want to go. I have a desire of speed. (Laugh)

This is one of our vacations.  But because we were in the middle of our Asia tour, we recently got our Taiwan visa making us unable to go abroad elsewhere, and only took a trip with friends to Busan. “When we arrived, we saw the ocean, ate sashimi and took pictures, only took one picture. (While showing the reporter the picture, Leader Seungho’s charisma had a bubbly appearance.) Like a man, there is only one photo. That was everything” Then I personally drove all the way back to Seoul. (Laugh)

Cheondoong:  Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands looks great at first glimpse (laugh) Second is Guam, although I don’t swim really well, I like the ocean.  Third is India. I have an interest in Indian Music. I recall that Seo Taiji in the past said Indian music is great.

Q. [Theatrical costumes vs casual]

Mir:  I like the black-color the most, second I like white, because black is an easy color to match, it makes it convenient when trying to mix and match clothing. Third is blue, I normally like jeans.

G.O:  Because our band name is “MBLAQ” it definitely has an influence on our favorite color. Though I usually like black, professionally speaking, due to on stage performances there is a lot of exposure to a variety of colors, yet strangely enough I still like black-color. In reality if you were to open my closet, it would be very monotone. If not black, there is white, I have the most of black, so black is in first ranking  then comes white and blue, just like Mir. (Laugh)

In casual, I would prefer something that has a masculine feel. However, there are times I’d like to have the Dandy Look or Marine Look. But “The style doesn’t seem to fit me very well, so I would most probably pick clothings that are darker and simplistic.”

Lee Joon:  Beige, black, white, I don’t have a particular color that I prefer. Like food, I don’t have a preference for color as well. (Laughs). “I am preparing for the near future, right now the clothes are also prepared by the stylist Noona, it’s nice right?  (Laugh)

Seungho:  In first rank would be red. I most certainly like black and red, the monotone neat style. Regardless of how you mix these three colors together, it is okay.

Cheondoong:  I like black the most. Second, white and third, blue.

Q. [Fashion Orientation] Idol Fashion, what is the most important to you?

Mir:  First in ranking, my favorite, is watches. Second rank is suits. Watch is ranked first because men love to wear watches. Because my heart is very weak, I never had the courage to buy expensive watches. (Laugh). I like Cartier, in the future I will most definitely buy a watch. (Laugh). In addition, in third place is white T-shirt and jeans. The simplest and the most stylish.

G.O:  I think suits are most suitable for men. During the filming of the drama “Ghost” Ji-Sob Hyung wore a suit during the funeral scene. I think “If even men without a second thought think it is handsome, there is no way that women would not be attracted by it.”

Second “Even though I’ve tried a variety of accessories, watches to men are, in the end, the most important.” It is different than women, men rank fashion differently.

Lee Joon:  I think to give the overall impression of the clothing, the body figure is most important. “I think men’s body figure has to be good in order to make clothing look good, even if you were to wear expensive clothing and your body wasn’t fit, it would look strange.” Up to this point, body figure wise, Rain has the best. Second is watch, I don’t like expensive things. (Laugh)

Seungho:  First, to men in general, suits are the most important. Second in ranking are sunglasses. Though I do not have a special collection for them. While they cover your eyes, you cannot see a person’s eyes clearly, it is quite attractive. Third are watches. If you like brand names, watches and cars would be never-ending. To some extent, having an appropriate limit would be most viable.

Cheondoong: I usually like the suit style, honestly speaking, I always want to wear suits (laugh) Second, which could be used as a focal product, are hats. Third is attitude. Regardless of how good your clothes are, or how good the brand is that you use/wear, I think having one’s own feeling and attitude is most important.

[INTERVIEW] 120926 MBLAQ BNT Interview #1 “MBLAQ “The biggest mountain to climb, singer Rain?””

3 years since debut, MBLAQ had gathered to announce information next month under the topic of bubbling popularity rather than a sharp increase in popularity. MBLAQ’s latest interview with bntnews “Though it’s been 3 years since our debut, we still wonder if we can still climb the huge mountain that is Rain. Before we debuted it felt like that, even now it’s still like that” they said humbly. MBLAQ’s knife dances and overflowing charisma in the world of popular idols truly is appealing. Idol singers’ individual and group image branding is very important. It’s not about different members divided to be in charge of different things such as acting or gags but the fact that one person can show these different skills is essential.

From head to toe styling and an interview during a broadcast would either be win or a loss to the group’s image. At present, K-pop is bubbling. Since years ago artistes had took upon the task of glocalization and this is why junior artistes enter the industry easily. MBLAQ, however, survived solely on contents of Southern undiscovered aspects. These guys made it amongst other male idols primarily due to the ‘German Asian Music Charts 2010-2012 Special Top 20’ with Mona Lisa ranking at #1. ‘This is War’ of course clinched the 5th position. ‘Mona Lisa’ especially, was in either 1st or 2nd place from August to December last year, and even ranking 1st this year in January proving their immense fame. In this chart included other K-pop idols such as Big Bang, 2NE1, SHINee, B2ST who all too had favorable ranks.

Not forgetting, recently from the opposite side of the world in Brazil, our nation’s idols had appeared on their television. MBLAQ had never wavered to a bad path and neither had they taken a step back but instead they showed their close-knit camaraderie, not even leaving out one member, which is still evident now.

We received insight from each member. Let’s see MBLAQ’s 7 honest answers to 7 questions.

Q. [Scenes in Movies] MBLAQ’s favorite kiss scene? ‘Kissing in the rain’ with a lover

 Mir: A kiss scene? I don’t particularly like kisses. (haha) If I had to choose from the list of movies I would say from the movie ‘Notebook’. Next would be ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The third would be from ‘Titanic’.

G.O: (When watching the scene from ‘Notebook’) “Personally I’m not so sure about the emotions during kisses in the rain like this. I’d like to try a kiss scene in the rain though”

I would place ‘Spiderman’ in the top spot as the scene was very unique. Second would be ‘Titanic’. The pose seemed like only people in love could do it. I watched this movie when though I couldn’t since I was a minor. (Laughter)

Lee Joon: ‘Spiderman’ would be first. Second ‘Titanic’ and third goes to ‘Twilight’. The actor really portrayed a spider really well which made the kiss scene exciting to watch. In ‘Twilight’ the scene was like the actors facing each other normally then falling in love during the shoot. (haha)

Seungho: I too found the kiss scene in the rain very pretty from the ‘Notebook’ so that’s first. Second would be from ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The scene in the movie was very pretty. The third would be Titanic.

Cheondung: First is Spiderman. Second is ‘Titanic’. Third would go to ‘Twilight’. The lead couple in this movie seemed like they were very compatible.

Q. [Ideal Types] Mir’s ideal type “Rather than Kim Tae Hee it’s of course SNSD’s Taeyeon nuna”

 Mir: No one from the list is my ideal type. I’m only for SNSD’s Taeyeon nuna. “I don’t have a second place” There’s no one but Taeyeon nuna because “her face is pretty and her personality is really nice, everything’s good” (Laughter)

G.O: For me, Kim Tae Hee. I like girls with angelic styles. “I believe that girls should really be feminine” That’s why I don’t like hippie styles. Secondly, it would be Megan Fox. She was really charming when I watched ‘Transformers’. Third would be Anne Hathaway. When I watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ it left with lingering emotions.

 
Lee Joon: Kim Yuna the figure skater. “I personally like oriental people” (laughter) The fact that she works very hard in whatever she does and endures through the hardest times is very good. Also though she’s at that level, she very humble and I believe that’s the most charming aspect.

Seungho: I like Olivia Hussey. No one else is my ideal type. When I first saw her I thought “She’s pretty” (laughter)

Cheondung: In first place is actress Anne Hathaway. Second is Megan Fox. Third would be Kim Tae Hee. Personally it’s not that I like sexy styles, but not long ago I watched the newly released movie ‘Dark Night Rises’. Anne Hathaway’s concentration and tough persona made it even sexier. The third is Kim Tae Hee. I believe she’s universally everyone’s ideal type

[VID] MTVK XIA: On Flying Solo – Interview

XIA (JYJ’s Kim Junsu) recently embarked on his very first world tour after completing his solo tour across Asia. Fom New York and LA to Mexico, Brazil, and Chile, XIA performed songs from his album Tarantallegra for his international fans. The 2+ hour concerts also included his hit OST tracks, medleys from his award-winning musicals Mozart! and Elizabeth, and of course, his newest English single, “Uncommitted.” During his stay in New York City prior to his concert at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom, XIA gave MTV K an exclusive interview on what he had prepared for his fans for this tour, his thoughts on “Uncommitted,” and what it was like touring without JYJ members Yoochun and Jaejoong.

[INTERVIEW] Soul and Style: Kim Junsu's latest musical collaborators Automatic and Ebony

Photo courtesy of Bruce “Automatic” Vanderveer's Facebook page.On September 2, I found myself at the Hollywood Palladium for K-pop sensation Junsu Kim’s concert, invited by music producer Bruce “Automatic” Vanderveer and vocal director Ebony Rae Cunningham. When Kim performed “Uncommitted,” the track the duo produced for Junsu’s English debut single, the two immediately began jamming to the song and singing along.

As the song came to a close, Junsu thanked Automatic for writing and producing the single, and Automatic cheered back from the balcony: “You made it happen, man!”

Automatic is the president and CEO of InRage Entertainment, and Ebony Rae Cunningham is the vice president. She was the vocal stylist for "Uncommitted."

In the midst of some small talk with the duo, Automatic suddenly bellowed a long, hearty note -- and I knew there'd be an interesting interview to come. The two of them then delved deeper into their recording experience and musical relationship.

APA: Let's start from the beginning. How did you get into music?

Ebony Rae Cunningham (ERC): I started off in church, like a lot of other musicians. I heard someone singing one day, and I was like, “I can do that.” I started singing at choir and then worked my way up to be the leader of the choir. Later, I went on to attend the University of South Florida and transferred to USC, graduating with a degree in Music.

Automatic (A): I started playing when I was 11 years old. When I was living in Brooklyn, there was a kid next door who had a guitar. He would never let me play, and I kept saying, “I would have tried. I would have tried.” So, I beat him up, and I took his guitar. And I started playing it. My mom ran outside, and she was like, “Oh my gosh, how did you just play that?” and I said, “I don’t know!” But I learned how to play a song in about 10-15 minutes, and she got on the phone and said, “My son, Automatic, can play the guitar!” She was amazed and started calling me “Little Automatic, Little Automatic.” And I guess I have this thing where I just pick up an instrument and just start playing it. I can play 11 instruments now.

APA: Did you ever give the kid back his guitar?

A: [laughs] Yeah, I gave it back to him… but I didn’t really want to. By the way, my mom never even cared that I kicked that kid’s butt, so that was interesting. [laughs]

APA: What are the 11 instruments you can play?

A: Drums, trombone, bass guitar, guitar, piano, tuba, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, panpipe, xylophone… and a little bit of accordion, but I’m working on it. Oh, and I can play the berimbau. It’s a Brazilian instrument.

APA: How did even get your hands on all these instruments?

A: After beating up the first kid -- you know, that was my Brooklyn mentality [laughs] -- I decided to go straight. Eventually, my mom bought me a guitar, and when I went to school, I would take it with me, and I’d ask the kids at school, “Can I trade my instrument for yours for a day or two?” So I’d trade my guitar for a tuba, and so on and so on. We bartered, and that’s how I learned how to play a whole bunch of different stuff. I can play them well enough to play on records, but I’m not a master of them or anything.

APA: How did you get into music professionally?

A: Well, I was in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and I had a band. We showcased and played for many different record labels, and I got turned down by 13 record labels, so it was crazy. One gentleman came out to the rough, rough streets of Brooklyn to come see us at our loft. We did a showcase, and they wanted to sign us. So, I was signed to Morgan Creek/Polygram Records and literally went from having no money to having $300,000 in the bank in about a month and a half. I came out to California to record my first album. I saw palm trees, and I thought I was in the tropics, so I said, “I’m staying!!” My first album was titled Auto & Cherokee, titled after me and the person I was working with at that time. We had a track called “Taste” featured in the film, The Crush.

I can play a lot of instruments, and I thought I could record really well. I had my own studio when I was 15 years old, so I was used to recording, but learning how to make records for the radio was on a whole other level. I met Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the guys who are responsible for Janet Jackson and New Edition. I did a production deal with them, and they kind of mentored me in producing records. So, I worked for Michael Jackson for a little while and developed two groups called Brown Stone and Quo. That was more working on vocals, but I was working on building their groups and became great friends with Michael Jackson. And then worked for the WB Television Network and eventually got to Sony, who love what I do. They wanted to sign me as a writer and producer, and I joined them at the end of ’99.

APA: [to Ebony] How about you?

ERC: After I graduated college, I had to figure out what direction I was going to take. I wanted to be an artist and not work for someone else. When I met Automatic and learned everything about what he had going on, I completely agreed with his vision of artistic freedom. I agreed to work with him, and he crowned me as the Vice president.

A: That’s the vision of InRage Entertainment: the fact that there are so many great artists out there who don’t get the chance to express themselves. Sometimes they just do what their record labels tell them to. Some of them can do many different genres and play so many types of music, but they just don’t get that opportunity. And so I was feeling “in rage” that we don’t have enough artistic freedom in this industry, and that’s how this all came about: InRage Entertainment.

APA: As a producer who can play so many instruments, do you have a genre of music you like making most?

A: It’s so funny you ask that. Because I play so many different instruments, I’m what you would call a “hybrid producer.” I produce a variety of different music. Actually, my first Top Ten record was a country song by Bettina Bush from American Idol. So there is no particular genre I would say I’m strongest in. I’m still going through the different phases of recording and producing different genres of music. I’ve done everything from gospel, to rock, to hip-hop and I’m open to more.

APA: Moving on to your latest production “Uncommitted,” how did you get in touch with C-JeS and start working with Junsu?

A: There was a C-JeS executive. His name is Niddy, and he knew a friend of mine, who introduced me as a Sony producer. So Niddy contacted me and said, “You know, we at C-JeS are looking for songs for the group JYJ.” I submitted some songs and actually “Uncommitted” was a song that I wasn’t sure I should submit because it was a little bit softer than the other things I submitted. The other things were stronger, more up-tempo, more hard-hitting, whereas “Uncommitted” was mid-tempo and more like a ballad. What’s amazing was they called me back saying they loved “Uncommitted” and wanted it. I thought to myself “Wow, I almost didn’t submit that song.” [laughs] So that was so crazy.

APA: What made you eventually submit “Uncommitted” after being unsure?

A: I thought it had a good enough storyline in the song. I thought, “Maybe they may want it.” Again, it’s about a man who had a past of being a player and then he meets the girl of his dreams. He decides he doesn’t want to be a player anymore, but the girl says, “I already know about you and your past, and I don’t believe you’re built for this kind of relationship, so let’s have fun and call it, just leave it.” The guy winds up having his heart broken for the first time. So I thought maybe this would be a good submission, and maybe they’ll get it.

APA: When you were working this deal out with C-JeS, did you know K-pop or Junsu?

A: Yeah, my daughter is a big fan of JYJ and she also was a big fan of the original group they were a part of. She was also into Big Bang and Super Junior and has been listening to them for many years. So she told me, “You gotta listen to this new K-pop group,” and I thought it was cool but didn't understand the appeal at the time, because a lot of it just seemed like a lot of pop stuff, like American music to me. But as I started to get into it more, I realized that K-pop artists experiment a lot with different genres, whereas in America, we often stick to what’s happening now. By the time I heard that I was going to work with Junsu, my daughter was so excited: “Dad, do you know who that is??” I was just happy that my daughter was so excited. [laughs]

APA: “Uncommitted” was recorded here in the States, right?

A: Originally, we were supposed to go to Korea and record it there. We were trying to get everything together, coordinating the plane tickets and all of that. Junsu was doing quite a bit of work, touring and recording, so schedules were being switched around often. And at literally the last second, they called us saying, “We’re going to have him fly to America.” So we could go right to work when he arrived.

The greatest thing that happened was when we had a meeting with the C-JeS executives, and they sat us down and said, “Junsu is coming in, and he’s going to record the song. We want to make it a single, and we’re going to do a video for it.” We were so surprised! We just thought it was going to be a single on his record. We quickly got into the studio in a matter of days. And within three days after we finished in the studio, filming for the music video started. Everything moved so quickly. We were still mixing the song the day of the video shoot. [laughs] C-JeS is an incredible record label; they move fast and strong. We have never seen a label work that quickly.

REFLECTION

Q. According to the KpopStarz poll results in June, TVXQ was selected as the top K-Pop group that expanded the most in their global influence for the first half of 2012. What are your thoughts on this?

Yoonho: I’m very glad that we received this amount of love. This is also another way for us to spread awareness about our nation’s culture; therefore, this means we also now hold a greater responsibility.

Changmin: First off, I’m really glad that we were chosen through the votes of people in many countries ^^. I’m always sorry that I’m unable to personally greet and meet them. I’m always thankful for their support.

Q. TVXQ is now approaching the group’s 10 year anniversary. What are your thoughts on how far you’ve come?

Yoonho: I think that TVXQ is a group that has grown with all of the fans. More than anyone, the 10 year anniversary has a special meaning to me. TVXQ will work hard to further grow and to show a good image, so we hope for your continuous love and interest.

Changmin: There were many situations that happened, but due to the fans that cheered for us and loved us, we were able to come this far. Because of that, I think that I have to work even harder in the future as well.

ACTIVITIES IN THE PAST

Q. TVXQ debuted in Japan and topped the Oricon charts at No.1 after making a grand slam in Korea. Our guess is that it must not have been easy for K-Pop to succeed in the Japanese market at that time. How did you feel about putting aside all the fame and success in Korea and debuting in Japan? How did it affect the group in terms of the group’s growth and development?

Yoonho: When we first debuted in Japan, we were receiving a great deal of love in Korea. At first, it was very difficult for us in Japan. We went to a country whose culture we have never experienced. It was a big challenge for us to learn their culture and work hard to show our uniqueness. The language was a large obstacle we had to overcome, but we never gave up. We thought of the people that loved us and we genuinely worked hard, which resulted in the TVXQ you see today. The fact that we received a great deal of love in Korea and had to start all over again in Japan gave us a mindset of working hard. Due to that, TVXQ doesn’t know how to give up.

Changmin: First off, when we went to Japan, a place where no one recognized us, we were able to be humbled and return to the days when we first started. It was also an opportunity for us to develop our individual skills…^^ I’ve realized that the world is larger than we think~

Q. Looking back, when was your most memorable moment? Also, is there anything that you wish you would have done differently?

Yoonho: The moment that I will remember most happened recently at the Tokyo Dome, where we stood on stage once again. There were many people waiting for us and thinking of us, and it moved me and made me cry for the first time. Although time passes, it will remain in my memories for a long time. If I were to go back in time, there is nothing I would do differently. Those were the decisions I made, and every moment I worked hard, so there are no regrets. I was thrilled when our CD came out for the first time.

Changmin: When I was able to sing in front of others and feel importance and joy. It would have been nice to know the joy of singing earlier.

PRESENT

Q. What made TVXQ stand out or be different from other groups?

Yoonho: We never are satisfied with the present, but we always try our best. I think that is our greatest weapon. On stage, I think that we perform as if we are going to die, and I think our genuine attitude was seen by the audience. As for the music, we try to let people hear our differentiated music, and I think people recognize that. I think that is the reason for the current TVXQ.

Changmin: At the least, we give it our all on stage, and I think our fans really appreciate that.

Q. When comparing the group’s dreams and goals from the past and now, are they the same or different? Did you know that this is where you would be 9 years ago?

Yoonho: My dreams from the past aren’t different from my current dreams. Until the day I die, I want to be happy and do my best on stage. I also want to do music that will remain in people’s memories, even though time has passed. Therefore, I’m curious as to see what TVXQ will be like in the future. 9 years ago, rather than expecting it, I wanted to be on stage and do my best. Therefore, I’m able to be in this position.

Changmin: They’re different. In the past, I dreamed of becoming a sports reporter or announcer. I didn’t expect I would be here 9 years ago.

PERSONAL OPINION

Q. Who are your role models in life and in music?

Yoonho: My role model in life is my father. It’s because he showed me with actions, rather than words. When I become older, I want to become a cool father like that. My role model for music is Michael Jackson. He has passed away, but until his last day, he continued to dance and prepare for his performances and as an artist. He always tried to show new types of music. Until that age, he was able to dance and communicate with the audience. I want to become like Michael Jackson, who had an endless passion and who gave dreams and hopes to others.

Changmin: Our company’s producer, Lee Soo Man and our company’s composer, Yoo Young Jin. I admire their endless and challenging mindset, while still maintaining their unique color.

Q. Which artist’s music are you currently listening to?

Yoonho: Recently, I’ve been listening to Babyface’s first album. I think he’s an awesome producer. I’ve been into old pop and old trends, so I’ve been listening to Babyface’s first album.

Changmin: Maroon 5′s “Pay Phone.”

Q. If you could do collaboration with any artists, who would it be? And why?

Yoonho: It’s difficult to choose who because they are great. I want to work with people who have a different style from us.

Changmin: I want to receive a song from Brian McKnight. I respect him.

Q. What is your favorite international food?

Yoonho: I personally like Korea’s food the best. Recently, I’ve really been liking soybean paste stew. I actually want to introduce everyone to our country’s food. The food that I want to suggest is Korean barbecue ribs. If you come to our country, please try it. I recommend it.

Changmin: If I were to only choose one, that is too cruel….honestly, I like everything ^^

Q. What do you think you would be doing if you were not an artist?

Yoonho: When I was younger, my dream was to become a prosecutor. I wanted to become a person that can give others order and hope. If I wasn’t able to become that, I might be traveling overseas and would have probably found out about countries, while studying.

Changmin: Someone who is preparing for employment?

Q. Would you tell us your marriage plan? And what would be the image of your future spouse?

Yoonho: I don’t have a special plan yet. I just think of becoming a good father. I hope that it could be a person with a bright personality, no matter what happens. Someone who can smile and overcome many circumstances.

Changmin: I don’t want to marry too late. I want to marry someone who is nice and pretty, but most importantly, someone who would be able to understand and accept me.

FUTURE

Q. Could you tell us a little bit about your next album and how the preparation is going? (Concept, Music Video, Genre, Fashion, Choreography). Are you going to be collaborating with anyone? Any other surprises?

Yoonho: Our album is still in the works, but generally, we will work hard to show good images to everyone.

Q. You have had some experience performing in the U.S. with SMTOWN. What’s your view towards the U.S. market and do you have any plans to debut in the U.S.? If you come to the U.S., would you be willing to change your genre of music to fit the U.S. market?

Yoonho: The U.S. market can be called authentic, that is how large the market is. When we stood on the Madison Square Garden stage, I was happy and realized that this was possible. If there is a good opportunity for us to debut in the U.S., I want to do it. If we were to debut in the U.S., we would have to learn the language and customs. We want to send out greetings with our style.

Q. What is your ultimate goal as an artist?

Yoonho: We want to be artists where we can happily give dreams and hope to people. I gained dreams and hopes while watching Michael Jackson’s performance. Similar to that, I want to be an artist where our performances can give warmth and hope to others.

Changmin: I want to develop more today, than yesterday. Making a tomorrow that is better than today.

Q. What do you think will be in store for TVXQ when the group reaches their 30′s?

Yoonho: It seems like there wouldn’t be many changes, but we will have more experience and freedom. I think that will create a warmer feeling. Other than that, I think it will be similar. We will always try hard to show new images. By then, we will probably be more comfortable working and we’ll be able to show it on stage.

Changmin: Music that has freedom and fun, but one that also has passion.

MBLAQ, who will hold their Asia tour “The BLAQ% Tour” concert tomorrow night at National Taiwan University Sports Center, held a press conference just earlier. The five members, wearing black clothing, entered, making cameramen shoot nonstop. During the press conference, there was a Q&A section so let’s see how MBLAQ answered:

Taiwan fans are very happy to be able to see MBLAQ’s remarkable performance again, so is MBLAQ anticipating anything in particular during this visit to Taiwan?
Seungho: I am very grateful for the fans’ support. I am looking forward to our first solo concert [here] and I hope the audience will respond well to it.

This time’s “The BLAQ% Tour” is MBLAQ’s first Asia Tour, up to now you’ve already toured a number of countries, can you tell us your thoughts and feelings about being on tour up to now?
G.O: Being passionately welcomed in each country, I’m very happy and very touched. During this visit to Taiwan, from the airport to the press conference, we’ve also been heartily welcomed so I’m very happy. On the stage of the Taipei concert, I also have particular expectations for myself so I hope to bring out the best performance.

Were the lyrics from the new song of Mir and G.O’s subunit, “Wild”, based on firsthand experience? Will you have promotional activities in the future [for the song]?
Mir: This song expresses the manly image that I personally aspire toward, but it presents it in a relaxed and natural manner. We will perform it during the Asia tour, I hope everyone will like it.

Lee Joon and G.O both have challenged acting, while the other 3 members have only been cameos, have you ever thought to properly take up acting?
Lee Joon: I think acting is honed, and I hope I’ll do better.

What you want to challenge in the future?
Seungho: I think I’ve prepared myself well so I can take up all types of challenges.
Thunder: I want to challenge acting.

Taiwan is currently broadcasting the variety show that MBLAQ participated in, “Hello Baby”, so can the members share things that were fun and things that left deep impressions when being new fathers?
Seungho: Through this show, I learned more about parents’ love, and especially changing from the role of a singer to another role, it was a very interesting experience. If I suddenly become a father one day [before marriage], then that is probably an accidental mistake. But if I become a father through the conventional way [after marriage], I would probably be a very loving father.
Lee Joon: Because from the beginning I thought I couldn’t even take care of myself well, I didn’t even dare to take care of pets before. But after this experience, I think I will be competent in the future.

To MBLAQ who will soon celebrate their 3rd anniversary since debut, do you have any hopes or have any celebration plans for the 3rd anniversary?
Thunder: I hope to be able to advance more into Taiwan.
Mir: I hope to earn lots of money.
G.O: I hope I can profit from investing.
Seungho: I hope my career can develop further and better.
Joon: I hope I can understand more about managing my finances.

Taiwan fans are always anticipating MBLAQ to come hold a concert in Taiwan, what do you want to say to A+?

"Doesn't it look like the airing of 'SBS "Go Show' got cut?"
"What do you mean? The filming was totally fun..."
"It's been a month since we did the filming but it's not aired yet, right? The episodes with other artists who did their filming later than us were out first."
"No, isn't the delicious thing naturally the last thing to eat?"
"No, I have a bad feeling. Because there were even things that I filmed and then didn't come out..."
"No, when it airs the search words will definitely go up."

It is the talk ZE:A's Hwang Kwanghee had with MBLAQ's Lee Joon. They are age-fellows of 1988 who met for the "companion" interview. Throughout the photoshoot the two people exchanged trivial play on words. Although their inclinations are different, they are both honest without studying faces of people around them.

We met Lee Joon and Hwang Kwanghee. The two people are receiving attention as "variety-dol." Lee Joon rose as a variety blue chip after his appearance on MBC "Radio Star" last April. "I'm a bit of the style that gets tired of." Unexpected remarks without reserve are his speciality. "Lee Joon on 'Radio Star" was so funny that I got tears in my eyes." Even "Infinite Challenge" PD Kim Tae Ho thought highly of Lee Joon's variety skill. Hwang Kwanghee is also a master of "raw remarks." "There are no cartilages in my ears. I used them up to lift my nose bridge." Hwang Kwanghee has become synonymous with "kkap-dol." They are the two that are singers but received more attention with activities in variety. We have asked the two who are walking down the same road about their inside stories and worries.

[NEWS] [Interview Part I] Kim Jae Joong Goes from Idol Star to Real Actor

“I can’t believe it’s all over, when it still feels like I have more to do….”

Despite concerns that MBC’s Dr. Jin was Kim Jae Joong′s first ever period piece, the actor, as Kim Kyung Tak, managed to work closely with big senior actors, dispel the concerns and leave an impression in the eyes of his viewers.

The drama now has only one episode left to air and the cast is done filming, but it seemed Kim Jae Joong still couldn’t shake off the ghost of Kim Kyung Tak still hanging about him.

“I was nervous and scared because it was my first traditional drama. I was scared about what would come back to me if I didn’t do well, but I think it wrapped up well. [Kim] Kyung Tak is still here [in my heart]. The last shoot was yesterday, so he didn’t really have time to find his way out. (Laugh)”

For the interview, Kim Jae Joong showed he had kept his cool for the conclusion of his drama with his jokes and humor. He was fairly bright, but he said it was true that the three months he had spent as Kim Kyung Tak weren’t all fun and games.

He had to sweat it out in the costume of an officer on summer days that were hotter than those of any other year, and so he had to work hard to keep up his strength for his full schedule. The thing that tormented him the most, however, was his acting.

Dr. Jin was the first traditional drama he took up since he made his actor debut. Viewers praised that he certainly exceeded expectations ever since he started to appear, but some of them also pointed out that his voice tone was a bit too forced and rigid. When these criticisms were mentioned, Kim Jae Joong nodded his head in agreement.


“I didn’t know how to set my tone, not only for my voice, but also for my actions. I think I cared so much for being ‘powerful and charismatic’ just because I was supposed to be an officer. I knew nothing about acting in a traditional drama, so I guess those were the only things I cared about. I felt a lot of things after watching myself act. I cut out the excessive parts, and then tried to include other things.”

Of course, he wasn’t able to find his way alone. Veteran actor Kim Eung Soo, who appears in the drama as Kim Kyung Tak’s father Kim Byung Hee, helped him out a lot. Although he was cold toward Kim Jae Joong in the drama, the real Kim Eung Soo supported Kim Jae Joong like a father, and Kim Jae Joong returned the attention by acting like a son.

“I heard him say during our first shoot, ‘I wish I could have a glass of whiskey in this hot weather,’ and so I got him a bottle of whiskey. After seeing he still used a 2G phone, I also got him a smartphone. [The staff] told me that later he bragged about it a lot on set, saying it was from his ‘son’. He can’t hide it when he’s happy about something (Laugh)."

"When he’s acting, however, he never tries to teach or point out weaknesses no matter who he’s talking to. He just tries to lead actors to ways they can do better. Thanks to him, I was able to become Kim Kyung Tak.”

The scene where Kim Kyung Tak sobbed in the face of his father’s death, aired in the 21st episode of Dr. Jin, was especially received well. In that scene, he was different from some other actors who had been given their lead roles just because they were idols; the man crying on screen, spilling out all of his sorrow through his eyes, nose and mouth, was no longer an idol that only tries to show his best onstage.

Kim Jae Joong left his previous self behind, and fully became his character.

“It’s important to set myself aside, but it’s not easy. I believe this is what everyone who starts to act after debuting as a singer has to go through; it’s hard to let go of only showing your best onstage. What’s important in acting, however, is how you feel inside, so pushing your original self farther away helps you concentrate more on your character.

Kim Jae Joong took another step forward as an actor with the help of Dr. Jin, and he’s already thinking of his next big piece. He said he was most impressed by the film A Moment to Remember in the past, and said that he had given his guide album to a director with a scene from the film in mind.

Rather than care for the scale of the piece or the weight of his character, he cares more for getting a role to act in.

“I don’t care if it’s not a lead role. I want to try a variety of roles. If it’s a good piece and if it’s a character I like, independent films are okay, too. I also want to perform onstage. When you stand onstage as a singer you can only show how you dance and sing, but musicals mix them with acting. I believe just imagining what it would be like to act live in front of an audience will make me feel joyful.”

Kim Jaejoong said that rather than walking a safer route, he would rather take the more difficult route to test himself and would want to take on new characters.

“I am not sure there are how many sides of me that can be displayed to everyone but I’m sure there are still more sides of me that have yet to show to everyone. Right now there might still be many people who are prejudiced against Kim Jaejoong. This shows that everyone has yet to know the whole Kim Jaejoong right? (laughs) I want to act as a psychopath in the movie one day.”


Actor Kim Jaejoong Story #2. “If I received the new actor award, I will make a promise with everyone to…”

The 21st episode of ‘Dr Jin’ was broadcast a day before the interview was held. In the episode, Kim Jaejoong hugged his father in the drama and cried out grievingly. He was hurt at the side of his chest by an arrow and yet he hugged his father, crying out loud, “Please live for me.” His grieving cries made every viewers teared along.

“It might be a shortcoming for me. I am unable to plan my acting before the acting. I am unable to plan with the lines and the emotions before I act. After I got into the character, I will seems to become THAT character, releasing what I feel directly. In the scene where father passed away, it was also because of senior Kim Eun Soo’s good acting that made me more involved.”

The bloated face and the eyes that were blood-shot and puffy from crying while expressing the feelings for father, fans who watched this scene were deeply attracted by Kim Kyung Tak. In fact this scene made Kim Jaejoong received a ‘cute protest’ from his own father.

“After the end of episode 21, my father called me and said to me, ‘Why did you cry till such way!!’ My father said he had a weird feeling while watching my crying scene. He also said, ‘How could you cry till so depressing sad!!’ Maybe it is my father thus he felt that scene was sadder than usual while watching.”


Kim Kyung Tak was not in the original work and Kim Jaejoong difficultly acted for 4 months. He expressed that he does have a bit desire to take the new actor award at year end. When I said that isn’t his current awards more than enough? Kim Jaejoong smiled and said, “Newcomer award is different~” There is no next chance for him and thus he wished to have it. It is another 4 months before the award show, I asked Kim Jaejoong if he has a tactic. He thought for a long while and said…

“Usually the winners will prepare a lot of heartwarming speech but if I am to receive it… I will show ‘V’ to the camera and shout, ‘Thank you!’ Hahaha!”

Normal Person Kim Jaejoong Story #1: Do you know? Jae Geum?

I witnessed Kim Jaejoong’s cuisine ability in ‘Protect The Boss’ last year. When he was in Japan filming his Japanese drama, he would cook udon for the staffs and said that he is considering taking the license for a chef.

“It is my aim. The food that I cooked are very delicious but it doesn’t look good thus I have to get a license to work harder.” (omitted)

“I felt happy looking at people who love to eat the meals that I prepared.” Kim Jaejoong expressed that his ideal girl is also someone who will appreciate such happiness.

“It is okay if she doesn’t know everything like cooking and housework, but I don’t like the attitude of ‘I don’t know~ You do it~’. I hope that the two of us can cook and do housework together, enjoying the happiness within it.”


Normal Person Kim Jaejoong Story #2: “When I’m tired, Omega 3! Yoochun, please answer my call~”

“The average sleeping time is 2 hours. I’ve learnt a lot each and every episode. Even if upon challenging horrific things, I would be agitated too. Will work hard for the remaining filming too. I wish to challenge new things. To touch on the things I’ve yet to feel.” (16th July Kim Jaejoong’s Tweet)

From his twitter, he revealed his average sleeping time in between his busy filming schedules is only 2 hours and there were two days where he did not sleep a wink at all. Other than his drama filming schedules, there are still movie filming, fan meeting with overseas fans, CF filming etc. It’s no wonder that his body went wrong.

Kim Jaejoong said that his way to relieve the tiredness is by “Not eating!!!”. “Koreans always say that one has to eat to have energy but I think that ‘I don’t even have enough time for sleeping~ It will be even tiring if I have to eat. I have to feel relaxed and eating will make me sluggish. Therefore during the busy schedules, I will replace food with nutrition supplements. If there is time for eating, I would use it to sleep. At times where I have think quickly and when I had to memorise a lot of lines, I will take Omega 3.”

“A while ago, I was too exhausted that I called the members. But Junsu and Yoochun did not pick up my call. But recently I did managed to talk to Junsu recently. As for Yoochun, he did not even reply my messages. Made me so stuffy that I called Yoohwan and asked ‘Is your brother doing well recently?’…”

After grumbling for a while, he felt sorry for Yoochun and once again speak up for him, “Actually Yoochun doesn’t like to meddle his handphone and is not that good with handphones. If there’s a missed call, he would not even look at it or return the call. Sometimes it has to be when the handphone is in his hands then he would reply the message. I will meet them soon and at that time I will tell Yoochun again, ‘Please answer my call!!’.”
